Q: What type of gifts should my guests bring?
A: Anything new, non-perishable and reasonably easy to transport. Gift
ideas might include:
- Toys/Books
- Clothing (especially winter items; gloves, scarves, etc)
- Stationary or other paper products
- Small games or puzzles
- Gift Cards or Gift Certificates to major retailers
(K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Target)
Q: People are asking me how they can host their own Santa Cause Party.
What do I tell them?
A: Terrific! Just have them jot down their name, phone number, email
address and the city they live in. Then forward this
information one of us on the Santa cause Executive Board below:
Or, you could send them to our website
www.Santa-Cause.org .They'll be
able to indicate their interest right from the site.
Q: Who will be receiving my donated gifts?
A: Your gifts will go to underprivileged families. The needy are boys and
girls, men and women, young and old.
Q: Do I/my guests need to wrap their gifts?
A: No! As a matter of fact, many charities only accept unwrapped gifts!
Because of this, you should let your guests know beforehand not to go to
the time and expense of wrapping their donation(s). Don't worry, however,
if a guest shows up with a wrapped gift. If necessary, it's easy to unwrap
it again before it is donated.
Q: Can I have the names of the families my gifts will be going to so I/my
guests can include personal notes with the donation(s)?
A: Unfortunately, we are not able to provide the names of those who will
be receiving your gifts. However, if you feel strongly about including a
card/note, feel free to do so. Perhaps it could be addressed simply as
"Dear Friend"
Q: I want to help, but I'm not going to any parties. What can I
do?
A: Gift cards to major retailers allow parents to provide their
families with a wonderful Christmas and afford them the thrill of
selecting their own gifts. We recommend cards from discount stores such as
Target or Wal Mart. No amount is too small.
Q: Our party is on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Is that too late?
A: Certainly not. Although we will not be able to get those gifts
into people's hands by Christmas, please consider gifts of warm clothing
for both children and adults. The need for new jackets, hats, mittens and
gloves extends well beyond the holidays.
Q: Do I have to include a personal note with my donation(s)?
A: Absolutely not.
Q: What type of gifts should my guests bring?
A: Anything new, non-perishable and reasonably easy to transport. Gift
ideas might include:
- Toys
- Clothing (especially winter items; gloves, scarves, etc)
- Stationary or other paper products
Q: Can I/my guests donate used items to Santa Cause?
A: No, not at this time. There are a number of worthy charities that would
be very happy to accept donation of used goods and clothing. However,
since Santa Cause donations are presented as holiday gifts, we accept only
new items/clothing.
Q: Is there a fee to have a Santa-Cause Party?
A: Absolutely not.
Q: Is Santa-Cause affiliated with any religious or other organization?
A: NO. Santa-Cause is not affiliated with any religious or similar
organization. Please know, however, that one of the local charities we
donate gifts to includes Catholic Charities. This is because:
1) Catholic Charities helps anyone who needs help, regardless of their
religious background.
2) Catholic Charities has an established, widespread, successful holiday
gift program that fits nicely with Santa Cause's mission and goals.
Q: Do I have to live in the Chicago area to have a Santa-Cause party?
A: No. However, we would ask you to have your guests bring gift cards
purchased at major retailers instead of gifts. This is due to the
logistical issues of getting the gifts into the hands of the charities we
have a relationship with.
Q: I'm not throwing a holiday party this year, but I think the host of a
party I’m going to would want to collect gifts.
A: Great! Simply send them to www.santa-cause.org to get signed up, or
give us their name, email address and/or phone number and we will follow
up with them. Our contact information is:
Q: I'm not really in the shopping mode ... can I do something other than
shop for a present?
A: You bet! How about buying and donating a gift card from a major
retailer?
Q: How much money should I/my guests spend on their present?
A: That is 100% up to you/your guests. Please don't feel that you have to
spend a lot of money, though. If you are facing a holiday with no gifts at
all, a $5 gift can mean as much as a $25 gift!
